New York Times Elements

Learn how to set up, publish, and optimize your HipDeck workspace.

The New York Times Element brings live, trusted journalism directly to your displays. Whether you want to showcase full article cards or run a scrolling news ticker, this element keeps your audience informed with up-to-date headlines and content sourced from The New York Times.

What Is the New York Times Element?

The New York Times Element displays articles and news from The New York Times directly on your screens. It pulls live content from NYT feeds and presents it in one of two display modes: rich article cards with headlines and images, or a compact scrolling ticker that cycles through the latest headlines.

This element is ideal for environments where staying current with world events adds value to the viewer experience. It requires an active internet connection to fetch and display live content.

Available Feed Options

You can choose which NYT feed to display, allowing you to tailor the content to your audience. Available feed options include:

  • Home Page — the top stories currently featured on the NYT home page
  • Additional section feeds covering topics such as World, U.S., Business, Technology, Science, Health, Sports, Arts, and more

Selecting the right feed ensures your displays surface the most relevant stories for your specific audience and setting.

Display Modes

The New York Times Element supports two distinct display modes, giving you flexibility in how news is presented on screen.

Article Cards

Article card mode displays each story as a visually rich card featuring the article headline, a brief summary or excerpt, and an accompanying image. This mode is well-suited for larger screens where you want to give each story visual prominence and encourage viewers to engage with the content.

Scrolling Ticker

Ticker mode presents headlines in a compact, continuously scrolling bar. This is ideal when screen real estate is limited or when you want to layer news headlines alongside other content without dominating the display.

Image Display Mode

When using article card mode, images are displayed using the Cover image display mode. In this mode, the article image fills the designated image area of the card, cropping as needed to maintain a consistent, polished layout across all stories regardless of the original image dimensions.

Use Cases

The New York Times Element is a strong fit for environments where audiences expect or appreciate access to current events and quality journalism. Recommended use cases include:

  • Lobbies — keep visitors and employees informed while they wait or pass through
  • Waiting rooms — provide engaging, credible content to reduce perceived wait times
  • News-forward environments — newsrooms, media companies, financial institutions, and other settings where staying current is part of the culture

Internet Connection Requirement

The New York Times Element requires an active internet connection to function. Content is fetched live from NYT feeds, so displays must have reliable network access to load and refresh articles and headlines. If the connection is interrupted, the element will not be able to display updated content until connectivity is restored.
