Bible Verses Elements

Learn how to set up, publish, and optimize your HipDeck workspace.

The Bible Verses Element lets you display scripture passages directly on your slides — complete with the verse text and reference citation. Whether you're leading a Sunday service, a faith-based workshop, or a community gathering, this element makes it easy to bring the Word to your audience with clarity and style.

What Is the Bible Verses Element?

The Bible Verses Element is a dedicated slide component designed to display scripture by reference. Instead of manually typing out verse text, you simply enter a reference — such as John 3:16 or Psalm 23:1-3 — and the element automatically retrieves and displays the full verse or passage.

Key capabilities of the Bible Verses Element include:

  • Automatic verse retrieval by book, chapter, and verse reference
  • Support for single verses and multi-verse passages (e.g. Romans 8:28-30)
  • Optional display of the reference citation below the verse text
  • Full font and color customization to match your presentation theme
  • Seamless integration with background images and shape elements

How to Add the Bible Verses Element to a Slide

Adding a Bible Verses Element to your slide is straightforward. Follow these steps to get started:

  1. Open the slide editor and navigate to the slide where you want to add scripture.
  2. Click the Add Element button (or the + icon) in the element panel.
  3. Select Bible Verses from the list of available element types.
  4. The element will appear on your slide, ready for you to enter a verse reference.
  5. Resize and reposition the element on the canvas as needed.

Selecting a Verse or Passage by Reference

Once the element is on your slide, you can specify exactly which scripture to display using a standard Bible reference format.

Reference Format Examples

  • Single verse: John 3:16
  • Verse range: Psalm 23:1-3
  • Multi-chapter passage: Romans 8:28-30
  • Full chapter: Genesis 1

Type your reference into the verse reference field in the element's settings panel. The element will fetch and display the corresponding text automatically. If you enter a passage spanning multiple verses, all verses in the range will be shown in sequence on the slide.

Showing or Hiding the Reference Citation

By default, the Bible Verses Element displays the reference citation (e.g. "John 3:16, NIV") beneath the verse text. You can toggle this on or off depending on your presentation context.

When to Show the Citation

  • Teaching or sermon slides where the source reference adds credibility and context
  • Study materials where attendees may want to look up the passage themselves
  • Printed or exported handouts where attribution is important

When to Hide the Citation

  • Worship or devotional slides where a clean, uncluttered look is preferred
  • Decorative or inspirational displays where the verse text stands alone
  • Slides with limited space where every pixel counts

To toggle the citation, open the element's settings panel and use the Show Reference toggle switch.

Font and Color Customization

The Bible Verses Element supports the same rich styling options available across all text-based elements. You can tailor the appearance to match your brand, theme, or occasion.

Font Options

  • Font family — choose from a wide library of serif, sans-serif, and display typefaces
  • Font size — scale the verse text and citation independently
  • Font weight — bold, regular, or light to suit the mood of your slide
  • Line height and letter spacing — fine-tune readability for longer passages
  • Text alignment — left, center, or right to fit your layout

Color Options

  • Verse text color — set a solid color or use a gradient for a dramatic effect
  • Citation color — style the reference separately from the verse body for visual hierarchy
  • Opacity — reduce opacity for a subtle, layered look over background images

Tip: For maximum legibility, use high-contrast color combinations — white or light text on dark backgrounds, and dark text on light or neutral backgrounds.

Who Is the Bible Verses Element For?

The Bible Verses Element is purpose-built for organizations and individuals who regularly incorporate scripture into their presentations and displays.

Churches and Houses of Worship

Display sermon scripture on the main screen, create weekly bulletin slides, or build a rotating lobby display featuring key verses from the upcoming message series. The element saves time by eliminating manual copy-paste workflows.

Faith-Based Organizations

Ministries, nonprofits, and faith-based schools can use the element in training materials, event signage, and digital communications to keep scripture central to their messaging.

Community Centers and Event Venues

Community centers hosting faith-based events, retreats, or conferences can quickly build professional-looking scripture slides without needing a dedicated design team.

Tips for a Polished Look

The Bible Verses Element looks its best when paired thoughtfully with other design elements. Here are some practical tips to elevate your scripture slides.

Pairing with Background Images

  • Use nature photography (mountains, water, sky) to evoke a contemplative atmosphere that complements the verse
  • Apply a dark overlay or blur effect to the background image so the verse text remains easy to read
  • Choose images with a clear focal area and position the verse element in the negative space

Pairing with Shape Elements

  • Place a semi-transparent rectangle or rounded shape behind the verse text to create a text card effect
  • Use a thin horizontal line or divider shape to visually separate the verse body from the citation
  • Add a decorative border shape around the entire slide for a framed, formal presentation style

General Design Tips

  • Limit each slide to one verse or short passage — avoid overcrowding the canvas
  • Use a consistent font and color palette across all scripture slides in a series for a cohesive look
  • Preview your slide at the intended display resolution before publishing to ensure text is legible at a distance
